Welcome to my quarterly check-in!
Somehow, somehow, I managed to read 80 books over the last six months. I’m not entirely sure how that happened, especially since my target for the year was 95 books. I’m not going to up my challenge though – I’m just going to class anything I read over 90 books as a bonus.
I’ve only DNF-ed one or two and I still feel like I’m paying attention to everything I read. I’m not even purposefully reading shorter or easier books, especially since I’ve gone off YA recently.
I’m averaging 12 books a month, which I’m happy with. It boils down to 151 pages a day, which is weirdly almost identical to my average pages per day for the first quarter of the year, which was 152 pages a day. Weird.
I’m doing quite well with whittling down my TBR as well. The average time the books I’ve read spent on my TBR before reading is 2.1 years, which means I’m finally reading those older books. I mean, clearly I read more of the newer, more recently acquired, books, but I’m content with that.
That table doesn’t include library books, by the way. God I love Huddersfield Library. They tend to have all the new releases and it’s cut down my bookish spending to only £249.88 for the whole year to date, averaging out It’s also allowing me to cut down on buying books I’m only slightly interested in.
As for the books themselves:
Best Book of April 2018:
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Scythe by Neal Shusterman
If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio
(sorry, April was a great month, I can’t choose)
Worst Book of April 2018:
A Dance of Cloaks by David Daldligh
Best Book of May 2018:
The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell
Worst Book of May 2018:
Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant
Best Book of June 2018:
Agatha Christie: An Autobiography by Agatha Christie
Worst Book of June 2018:
Emperor of Time by Daniel Godfrey
I’m really happy with the books I’ve read this year so far. I’ve read some really memorable ones and there are lots I’m looking forward to reading in the second half of the year.
How is your reading going this year?
