Moby Dick Read-a-Long - There's Safety In Numbers!

I know, I'm sorry. I seem to have a knack of picking the books to read-a-long that nobody wants to read ever.

But isn't that kind of the point? We read War & Peace, because seriously, who on earth is going to plough through that on their own? Now we're going to read Moby Dick, a) because that's what the huge majority of people voted for, and b) I've had it for three years and hadn't even picked it up until today (and that was only to check how many pages the damn thing had).

So yay, read-a-long!

It's going to run in the same way the War & Peace read-a-long did. Every Sunday I'll post a list of questions/prompts that you can follow if you want to. If not, just chuck together a quick update post of your own devising, pop back here and link up.

We'll be tweeting about it using #letsreadmobydick so feel free to join in even if you don't have a blog.

Let's see... there are 634 pages in my edition and I've allocated six weeks for the read-a-long. That's just over 100 pages a week and it looks surprisingly accessible from my quick flick through.

So come on, you know you want to. As Charlotte pointed out last time, there's safety in numbers!

  1. I would join in except Laura didn't bring me the copy of Moby Dick she promised me so I don't actually have it :-( maybe she'll post it to me?hmmm

  2. Woohoo!!! I'm going to be on holiday when it starts, so I don't think I'll be posting anything the first week, but I am excited!!! :D

  3. I need all the help and cheerleading I can get! Hooray for readalongs!

  4. I really wanted you to call it the Dick-a-long. WASTED OPPORTUNITY HANNA! Seriously though, I really want to read my copy, I've heard SUCH AMAZING THINGS over the last year or so, but between OU starting and getting a bit hooked on about twelve free courses as well, prooooobably not a good time to start anything this big, right? Oh well. Maybe next time.

  5. Ok, fine. I'll read Moby Dick. Because otherwise there's very little chance I'll ever read it. And because I've heard that it's good. I mean, I'm not sure I'm convinced but I believe it enough that I'll brave it with you lot!

    Bring on the whale!

    1. yessss let's read all the scary-long books together!
