War & Peace Read-a-Long: Week One, Book One!

I've been fairly relieved over the last week to see that a number of you have started and are actually enjoying War & Peace... who'd have thought, right?

There's a linky below where you can add your Week One post - it's been a nice, easy read, right? We are going to pick up the pace a little from now on, but at least it seems somewhat less daunting now.

Feel free to answer the questions/prompts below in your post. If you'd rather not, then that's fine as well.

1) What pre-existing ideas did you have about War & Peace?

2) On that note, is it as bad as you'd expected? :P

3) What strategies are you employing?
e.g. reading in short bursts, using your Kindle on your commute, taking notes about the characters...

4) How are you getting along with your translation?

5) Most and least favourite characters?

6) How do you feel about the way women are treated in the book?

See you on February 15th, when we'll talk about Books Two and Three!
