Booking Through Thursday #3 - What is the one book you'd recommend without a second thought?

Booking Through Thursday icon

If someone asked you for a book recommendation, what is the FIRST book you’d think to recommend (without extra thought)?

Okay, so obviously it depends on the person in question - you'd have to take into account what they read and what they've already read. That said, I really do think everybody should read Pride and Prejudice. I haven't met a single person who doesn't like it. The only people who say it's 'a women's book' and that nothing happens, are pretty much always the ones who haven't read it.

And the best thing? I have 37 copies they could borrow! It's true, sadly enough. I collect different editions. Look -

And since I know you're all dying to know more about my obsessiveness, here are some closer photos :)

So yes. As you may have gathered, this is my favourite book and without doubt, the one I'd recommend to anybody.

  2. That is incredible! Like seriously! And I could show this to my mum and she'd be horrified, but I'm totally down with it! *goes off to buy 10 different copies of To Kill A Mockingbird*

    1. Funnily enough, P + P is the only book she doesn't complain about. It's amazing what you can get away with if you use the excuse 'it's for my collection!' :)

  3. I am one of the VERY few who did not like Pride and Prejudice. I am NO fan of Jane Austen.

  5. Wow, what an impressive collection! I thought I was obsessive...lol

No, seriously, why not? I have lots of books, too, and love being surrounded by them. And I loved Pride and Prejudice, but it's been a LONG time since I read it.

    Here's MY THURSDAY MEMES POST

  6. I've never read Pride and Prejudice, but my wife has often told me I should. What did you think of Pride & Prejudice & Zombies? Or is it sacrilege to ask? :)

    1. It's the only Pride and Prejudice spin-off I own. Normally I don't even go near them, but this one did intrigue me. It's alright, but not very much like the original. They've changed a lot and the characters are completely different in it.

It's worth a read, but I'd go for the original first :)

  7. Wow -- I'm impressed. Do you have a favorite? I have only one copy and it is falling apart. Not sure I'll even get one more read out of it!

    1. I do have some favourites, but it's hard to choose! I'm thinking about doing a proper post on it sometime in the future though.

I really like a Folio Society one my boyfriend bought me a few months ago. It's hardback and leather bound, with wonderful illustration. Then my other favourite is a £6.99 one from Waterstones, just because it's pretty :)

  8. What a lovely blog and what a lovely book collection you have. Pride and Prejudice is one of my very favourite novels. My 16yo son currently reading it and is only half way through after more than 6 months! It's not grabbing him obviously. Without hesitation I would recommend Jane Eyre to nearly everybody :)

    1. Boys don't seem to like it much, do they? Most of them won't even pick it up, so kudos to your son for that :)

  9. Tastes wary I guess. I'm one of those people who've read about half of Pride and Prejudice and then found something other to read. Just not my cup of tea at all. Sorry.

I found this week's question really hard.

  10. Love it! I've never been able to make it all the way through the book, but I adore the movie(s)! I definitely plan to finish the book though!!

  11. You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!
