Top Ten Tuesday – Favourite Book Covers I Own

First off, some more-than-a-little exciting news –

I GOT ONTO THE BAR COURSE!!!
And no, that doesn’t mean I’m learning how to mix margaritas. I’ve been accepted by three different Law Schools to do the vocational part of my legal training, which is the bit that actually teaches you the advocacy skills necessary to become a bad-ass lawyer.
It’s a stupidly exclusive course, and I was barely expected to scrape my way on to one, much less all three of my choices. I opened the e-mail before even getting out of bed this morning and screamed so loud my Dad genuinely thought I’d hurt myself.
So yeah, I’m slightly pleased. Is it September yet? 🙂

And now, because I haven’t forgotten the purpose of this course, my favourite book covers of books I actually own.

1) Cinderella Ate My Daughter by Peggy Orenstein
The cover actually sparkles!

2) Matched by Ally Condie

3) Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea by Jules Verne (Vintage edition)

4) Soul Screamers series by Rachel Vincent

5) The Secret History of the Pink Carnation by Lauren Willig
All the books in this series have beautiful covers and they feel lovely too.

6) We Bought A Zoo by Benjamin Mee

7) Pegasus by Robin McKinley
One of the nicest covers I’ve ever seen – shame I didn’t like the book as much!

8) Positively by Courtney Sheinmel

9) The Princess Bride by William Goldman
My Aunt bought me this years ago and it’s still the nicest edition I’ve ever seen

10) Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (Folio Society 2006)
I could actually fill up this entire list just using editions of Pride and Prejudice, but I won’t. The Boy bought me this one last week as a surprise and it’s amazingly beautiful – easily my favourite of the 36 editions I own. It’s hardback with a case and really detailed illustrations. I just want to sit here and nuzzle it all day!

Oooooh, look at the purty covers! I have that edition of The Princess Bride too – though I must say, I quite like the more film-based version in green… And I LOVE Vintage Classics, they're so gorgeous, all of 'em! Makes me wish I'd bought my 'Twenty Thousand Leagues' in that edition instead of buying the Wordsworth one. It was the only one the shop had but it's nowhere near as nice! 🙁

  2. Melanie says:

Ha, there are so many P&P covers out there. I love a lot of them too.

I think "Cinderella Ate My Daughter" is now my new favorite book title. Oh, the images.

Congrats on getting into all three of your choices! That's awesome.

Matched almost made it onto mine too! I haven't read it yet but I adore that shade of green and the simple (ish) cover style. And that IS a gorgeous edition of Pride and Prejudice. You should see my collected works of Jane Austen, I found it in The Works yeeeears ago and snapped it up. Think it was £20. SO gorgeous.

  4. I've got that edition of The Princess Bride too, I love the simple black & white look. My fave cover in my collection is my complete works of Shakespeare, it's green with glod letters and makes me look posh!

Congrats on getting all three of your choices, you'll definately be a bad-ass lawyer with a start like that!

  5. Elin says:

Love Pegasus:) So sweet and beautiful cover:)

  6. Willa says:

Congratulations on gettting into the course!! And well done 🙂

One the topic of covers, nothing beats "The Princess Bride", so beautiful!

  7. Ellie Warren says:

I love We Bought a Zoo and I have a friend that lives round the corner from the actual zoo. I'm half excited, half sceptical about the film version, they've changed it so much but it's providing lots of money for the zoo.

    1. Hanna says:

That's exactly how I feel. It seems a strange book to make a film about in the first place, and then to change it so much… I don't know. I did love the book though, so I'll probably end up seeing it.

It's great that your friend lives so close though 🙂

  8. Yay! Congratulations Hanna!
I too have that Princess Bride book. Think my favourite book cover is The Night Circus – but, alas and alack, my copy somehow arrived without the gorgeous dust jacket. I was so sad. Still a great read though.

    1. Hanna says:

Yeah, The Night Circus nearly made it onto the list, but then I realised it was the stuff INSIDE the book that made it so pretty – the inside paper, etc.

I'd have been mortified if mine didn't have a dusk jacket though!

  9. FABR Steph says:

These are beautiful covers that must really dress up your shelf.
That Pride and Prejudice cover is among the most beautiful that I have seen. I tend to buy more than one addition of the classics, so I have to acquire a copy.

I LOVE this bookcover post… I may have to copy your idea someday! I like the We Bought A Zoo cover especially even though the book kind of left me cold. Did you read it? I really liked the movie though.
If you have time, would you mind stopping by my blog? It's about movies based on books (like The Hunger Games, We Bought A Zoo, The Descendants, The Help, Hugo, MoneyBall, The Rum Diary, and on and on)
I would love your comment and would love you to join. I need some peeps! http://www.chapter1-take1.blogspot.com
